Household Income
We need your best guess estimate of what you think your income will be.
- What income did you make last year?
- Do you think you will make the same income this year?
Estimated Household Income for 2020 List the annual gross taxable income you anticipate receiving for January 1 through December 31, 2020 for everyone that is included on your tax return, even if they are not applying. This is usually your Adjusted Gross Income (AGI). If you are not sure about what your income should be, please consult a Tax Professional.
Please note that for self-employment income (like sole proprietors, and 1099 contractors), use the net amount (profit made after business expenses).
This will determine if you qualify for a government subsidy and will be an estimate based on your family size and income. The actual subsidy amount will be finalized during the enrollment process.
What if I estimate my income too high? If you estimate your income too high, you will end up getting less of a discount on your health plan, but you may get more money back when you file your taxes for 2020.
What if I estimate my income too low? If you estimate your income too low, you will end up getting more of a discount on your health plan, but you may have to pay back some (or all) of your subsidy when you file your taxes for 2020.
What if my income changes mid-year?
If you have a significant change of income mid-year, please call us. We can adjust
your income. If you are decreasing your income, that may increase your discount
or put you on Medi-Cal. If you are increasing your income, that may lower the
amount of your discount and increase your monthly premium, but it will protect
you so you don’t take a big hit at tax time.
What do I count and what do I not count?
- Social Security benefits (Survivors, Retirement, or Disability - SSDI) must be the full amount before deductions (include non-taxable Social Security)
- Tax-exempt interest
- Untaxed foreign income
- Alimony if you finalized your divorce in 2018 or before
- Child support
- SSI (if under specified amounts)
- SDI
- IHSS income if you live with the one you care for
- Alimony if you finalized your divorce in 2019 or later
Do I qualify for the Silver 73?
No matter what your income is, you may qualify for the Silver 73 Plan, which has richer benefits than the Silver 70 for the same price. However, if you are offered affordable employer sponsored coverage or you file taxes as “Married Filing Separately”, then you do not qualify for the Silver 73.
To qualify, you must say YES to this question. And, you must include each person in your tax-household on this page whether they are enrolling in a health plan or not. If they are not enrolling on a health plan, then select NO to the question above, “Does this person need coverage?”
