On WHA, Could I get a referral to UCSF?
Probably not. Western Health Advantage does not offer coverage in San Francisco, so UCSF would not be one of the offered providers. The provider list is determined based on the areas where Western Health Advantage is licensed.
However, there may be an exception to the rule. If your doctor or specialist referred you for a procedure that was not offered by any of the physicians or medical facilities in the network, then Western Health Advantage may approve an out-of-county specialist like the University of California San Francisco. One representative from WHA said, “I have seen a liver transplant referred out to UCSF.”
